Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet provides the backdrop for the modern day story of Romiette and Juleo. Ballet of the Dolls transforms the traditional story of love and lovers from feuding families into a reflection of social judgment and discrimination against same sex couples. The tragedy of this story arrives in the sad reality of the AIDS epidemic.

Join Ballet of the Dolls for this timely adaptation of a timeless love story. A tale of love, passion and the cruelty of judgment. A deconstruction of the original Shakespeare tale, this ballet explores the topics of AIDS, same sex marriage and homophobia. Originally created in 1991, Ballet of the Dolls will re-stage this controversial work to explore how things may—or may not—have changed in the past 17 years.
Pre-show speakers (6:30PM) and post-show Q&A on 6/18 and 6/19.
“Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean…
…A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life.”
